Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Overview

The nose gear door system has an aft door and two forward doors which fully close when the nose gear retracts. This protects and provides aerodynamic smoothness to the nose gear wheel well. A hinge attaches the aft door to the aircraft structure. Two control rods attach the aft door to the nose gear. Hinges attach the two forward doors to the aircraft structure. Two mechanisms attach the forward doors to the nose gear drag brace.

Each mechanism has a drive link, bell crank, and control rod. When the nose gear is retracted, the mechanisms pull the two doors to the fully closed position. The nose gear doors lock open or closed at the same time.

Forward Door

There are two nose gear forward doors, one on each side of the nose gear wheel well. The nose gear forward doors close in the inboard direction. The doors attach to the nose landing gear (NLG) compartment bulkhead panels with four hinges. The two forward door forward hinges connect the forward door to the NLG compartment bulkhead panels. The forward door aft hinges connect the forward door, the forward door rods, and the forward door assist spring to the NLG compartment bulkhead panels.

When the nose-gear retracts, the drag brace folds and the mechanism pulls the forward-doors to the fully closed position. When the nose-gear extends, the mechanism pushes the doors to the open position. The forward-door rods are adjustable to make sure the forward doors are flush with the aircraft skin.

Aft Door

Two hinges at the top of the aft door attach the door to the aircraft structure. The aft-door control rods attach the door to the nose-gear. These control rods connect to a bracket on the nose-gear main fitting. When the nose gear retracts, the control rods pull the aft door to the closed position. When the nose-gear extends, the control rods push the doors to the open position. The rods are adjustable to make sure the aft door is flush with the aircraft skin.

Forward Door Drive Link

The forward-door drive-links are installed on the left and right sides of the nose-gear wheel well. They connect the nose-gear drag brace to the forward-door bell cranks. The drive-links transmit movement from the nose-gear drag brace to the forward-door bell cranks to open or close the forward doors. There is a clevis pin at each end of the drive-links to attach them to the drag brace and to the bell cranks.

Forward Door Bell Crank

The forward door bell cranks connect to the forward door drive links and rods. They transmit movement from the drive links to the forward door rods to open or close the doors. The bell cranks each have a clevis pin at their forward ends to attach them to the forward door rods. They also have a lug at the aft end to attach the bell crank to the forward door drive link. The bell crank attaches to a pivot pin on the aircraft structure.

Forward Door Rods

The two forward door rods connect the bell cranks to the forward doors. The rods ends have spherical bearings to attach them to the bell cranks and to the forward doors. The lengths of the forward door rods are adjustable to make the forward doors flush with the aircraft skin when the nose gear is retracted.

Forward Door Assist Spring

A forward door assist spring is attached to each forward door aft hinge and to the NLG compartment bulkhead panel. The function of the forward door assist springs is to help the NLG to lock down during a manual extension. When the landing gear manual release is set, the forward door assist springs help the doors in their initial movement. The forward door assist springs also push in the opposite direction of the air load to help push the forward doors open. This helps the NLG to move to the down-and-locked position.

Aft Door Control Rod

The nose gear has two aft-door control rods, one on each side of the aft door. They attach to the nose gear and to a bracket on the aft door. The left and right control rods are the same and are adjustable to the same length. When the nose gear retracts, the control rods pull the aft door to the closed position.
