Overview
The thrust supplied by the power plant is controlled by the engine controls. The engine controls have the units and components to control the forward thrust, the reverse thrust, and the emergency shutdown of the engine. Forward thrust and reverse thrust are set with the throttle lever assembly. The selection of emergency shutdown of the engine is done with the fire switches on the engine control panel.
Each ECU contains software to control engine operation. The ECUs interface with many aircraft and engine systems. The ECUs provide communication with aircraft systems for the purpose of controlling and monitoring engine operation to provide the following:
- Thrust scheduling
- Engine fuel scheduling
- Starting, steady-state and transient engine control
- Normal and overspeed protection shutdown
- Compressor guide vane (CGV) monitoring and control
- Ignition system monitoring and control
- Nacelle anti-ice monitoring and control
- Aircraft bleed system monitoring
- Fuel system monitoring and control
- Oil system monitoring
- Vibration monitoring
- Fault detection, accommodation and time-limited dispatch (TLD) calculation
- Engine condition and fault reporting (EC-FR)
- Engine parameter indication
- N1 or N2 synchronization
- Mach hold
- Automatic performance reserve (APR) operation
- Thrust reverser (TR) monitoring and control
