Overview
The indicating and recording system consists of components that record and display critical aircraft information and system operation.
The flight compartment includes the main instrument panel, glareshield panel, center pedestal, side consoles, and cockpit circuit breaker panels responsible for most controls and indications.
The various line replaceable units (LRUs) in the system interface with each other, using several two-wire digital data buses. Each bus has a unique name. The buses are primarily ARINC 429 format, with some private RS 422 buses, ARINC 453 (radar and terrain) buses, and ARINC 717 (FDR).
The digital clock system, synchronized with global positioning system (GPS), provides the flight time, universal time coordinate (UTC), local (LOC) time, date, and chronograph time for the flight crew.
The flight data recorder system (FDR) is a solid-state recording unit that monitors real-time aircraft flight parameters and stores the data for the future. This stored information can be retrieved and the parameters analyzed.
The integrated avionics processor system (IAPS) provides part of the integration function required to interface the various avionics systems on the aircraft. The IAPS may be thought of as part of the wiring harness that physically houses some avionics line replaceable units (LRUs) and is partitioned to provide signal redundancy and independent power distribution. The IAPS also concentrates data by reading several avionics buses and distributing data words to the line replaceable unit/line replaceable module (LRUs/LRMs) requiring that information.
The electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) provides the means to gather, concentrate, and display aircraft information to the flight crew. The electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) uses four adaptive flight displays (AFDs). Two AFDs are on the pilot side main instrument panel, and the other two AFDs are on the copilot side main instrument panel.
The engine indicating and crew alerting system (EICAS) shows the different conditions of the engine and other aircraft systems. It also shows warning, caution, advisory, and status messages to the crew. The primary function of the EICAS is to collect data from many different aircraft systems and produce visual and aural information to the crew.
The central warning system (CWS) supplies sound indications and visual annunciations to the flight crew when an unsatisfactory aircraft condition occurs. The central warning system supplies crew alerting functions in the form of warning, caution, advisory, and status messages shown on the EICAS display units.
