Winglets

The winglets are installed on the wing tips. The winglets are used to decrease wing tip vortices. They are attached to each wing with four bolts have an up curve. The winglets have the component that follows:

Winglet Assemblies

The winglet assembly on each wing is made from the structural items that follow:

  • Front and Rear Spars
  • Ribs
  • Skins
  • Leading and Trailing Edge
  • Tip Fairing

The front and rear spars are made from machined aluminum alloy. They are attached to the auxiliary and rear spars of the outer wing.

There are six ribs in the winglet assembly. One of the ribs is attached to the aft side of the rear spar and the bottom of the trailing edge. It is made from machined aluminum alloy. The other five ribs are between the front and rear spars. Three of them, one at the top and two at the bottom, are made from machined aluminum alloy. The remaining two ribs are made from clad aluminum-alloy sheets.

The chemically milled clad aluminum skins are attached to the structure on the inner and outer sides.

The winglet leading edge that can be removed is made from chemically milled clad aluminum. It is found on the front of the winglet front spar. The trailing edge of the winglet is attached to the aft side of the rear spar. The winglet tip that can be removed is attached to the top rib of the winglet structure.

The winglet trailing edge and winglet tip fairing are made from graphite lamination.

Winglet Fairings

The winglet fairings are installed around each winglet. The winglet fairings have the components that follow:

Winglet Forward Fairings

The winglet forward fairing is a removable fairing. The forward fairing is attached to the forward side of the winglet root area with screws. The fairing is made from graphite lamination.

Winglet Wedge Fairings

The winglet wedge fairing is a removable fairing. The wedge fairing is attached to the aft side of the winglet root area with screws. It is made from graphite lamination. Wick-type static dischargers are attached to the aft end of each wedge fairing.

Winglet Access Panels

The winglet access panel is attached to the bottom side of the winglet root area with screws. It is made from chemically-milled clad-aluminum. The panel gives access to the winglet attachment fitting.

Winglet Lenses

The purpose of the winglet lenses is to protect the wing navigation lights. The winglet lenses system has a winglet lens on the wing tip of each wing. The winglet lens is a transparent window and is installed at the wing tip of each wing. The winglet lens protects the applicable wing navigation lights.
