Overview

The ailerons supply roll control for the aircraft. The manual type aileron is attached to the outboard rear spar of each wing. The aileron has the structures that follow:

  • Ailerons
  • Hinge Fittings
  • Geared Tab Support Fittings

Each aileron is attached to the outboard rear spar of each wing with three hinges.

Aileron Assembly

Each aileron assembly includes two spars, twelve ribs, three access covers, the drive rod attach-fitting, the bent tab, and the skins. The spars, the skins, the access covers and the bent tab is made from clad aluminum alloy. The hinge ribs, the drive rod attach-fitting and the inspar rib are made from machined aluminum alloy. The other ribs are made from clad aluminum alloy. The access covers are installed on the bottom side of the aileron leading edge with screws. The bent tab is installed on the center of the aileron trailing edge

There are three hinge fittings for each aileron. These hinge fittings are attached to the rear spar assembly of the outer wing. The hinge fittings are made from machined aluminum alloy. They have bearings installed at the pivot points.

Geared Tab

Each geared tab is attached outboard of the aileron trailing edge with three hinges. The geared tab includes the spar, five ribs, the skins, the hinge assembly and the geared tab fairing. The spar and the skins are made from clad aluminum alloy. The hinge assembly and three ribs that are attached to the geared tab are made from machined aluminum alloy. The ribs that are attached to the two ends of the geared tab are made from clad aluminum alloy. The linkage assembly of the geared tab is connected to the support fitting at the trailing edge with a rod.

Each geared tab fairing is attached to the bottom surface of the geared tab with four bolts. The geared tab fairing decreases drag. It also gives protection to the support fitting.

There is a support fitting for each geared tab. The support fitting is attached to the bottom of the rib between No. 2 and No. 3 hinge fittings on the trailing edge of the outer wing. The support fitting is made from machined aluminum alloy. It has a bearing installed at the pivot point.

Trim Tab (LH only)

The trim tab is attached with a piano hinge to the LH aileron only. The trim tab includes the spar, three ribs, the skins, the hinge, and the fairings. The spar, the ribs, and the skins are made from clad aluminum alloy. The hinge and the fairings are made from aluminum alloy. The fairings are attached to the bottom surface of the trim tab with bolts. The fairings are used as a cover for the control rod and the linkage assembly.
