ATA 71-70-00 Engine Drains

The function of the engine drains is to remove the fluid leakage from the fuel, oil and hydraulic systems overboard. The engine drains decrease the danger from the flammable fluids leakage from the engine.

The engine drains include the following:

  • Pad drain of the accessory gearbox (AGB) hydraulic pump
  • Pad drain of the AGB air turbine starter (ATS)
  • Pad drain of the AGB generator
  • Pad drain of the AGB hydromechanical unit (HMU)
  • Drain of the compressor variable geometry (CVG) actuator
  • Drain of the bypass duct
  • Drain of the hydraulic pump

All these drain lines connect to the drain manifold. The drain manifold is made of two parts. The top part of the drain manifold is attached to the engine, and the lower part is attached to the lower cowl door. The lower part of the drain manifold is a drain collector which is connected to the drain mast. The drain collector and the drain mast are part of the lower cowl door. The drain mast is attached at the 6 o’clock position of the lower cowl door.

The drain mast supplies a clean overboard routing of fluid leakage from the engine and the pylon.

The top part of the drain manifold has drain holes to help identify the leak source.
