WHITE MESSAGE
Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Overview

The function of the switching system is to let the flight crew operate the start and ignition cycle of the engine, activate some engine control functions, and when necessary, start an engine or APU fire extinguishing command.

The switching system supplies the pilots with an interface for the following control and indication functions:

  • Control of the engine start and ignition cycle
  • Activation of the engine control functions that follow:

    • Engine synchronization
    • Automatic power reserve function
    • Mach hold function
    • Event record function

  • Indications and controls related to engine and APU fire conditions

The switching system includes the switching control system.
