Message Description:

The amber 'FLT SPOILERS FAULT' caution CAS message indicates the flight spoilers have a fault.

  • One channel of the SECUs can not decode the RVDT positions to determine one of nine discrete angular lever positions. Either a loss in external inputs to the SECU through the IOCs, Channel A, the pilots channel goes to the left IOC, and channel B goes to the right IOC, or loss of input from the on-side MFS spoilers and RVDTs has occurred.
  • Additional information can be gained from the MDC non-volatile report page by checking the individual SECU for faults.

Possible Causes:

  • Multi-Function Spoiler Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (MFS RVDT) (RH INBD) (MT144)
  • Multi-Function Spoiler Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (MFS RVDT) (LH INBD) (MT145)
  • Multi-Function Spoiler Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (MFS RVDT) (RH OUTBD) (MT146)
  • Multi-Function Spoiler Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (MFS RVDT) (LH OUTBD) (MT147)
  • Spoiler Electronic-Control Unit 1 (SECU) (A118)
  • Spoiler Electronic-Control Unit 2 (SECU) (A119)
  • Throttle Quadrant Assembly (TQA) (A51)

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. If this CAS message is displayed on Aircraft power up, make sure the ailerons are in the centered position and use the reset procedure in AW300-27-0037.
  2. Refer to AW300-27-0037, the Radio Altimeter system may interfere with the system proper operation.
  3. NOTE: Perform electronic rigging of both SECUs when either SECU is swapped or replaced. The intent is if a SECU that is being installed was previously rigged in a different location in the same aircraft or it is being installed in a different aircraft or the SECU is a spare part it requires electronic rigging per the instructions in AMM TASK 27-61-05-400-801 Installation of the Spoiler Electronic-Control Unit (SECU).
  4. Interrogate the MDC as follows:

    1. On the cursor control panel, ensure the toggle switch is to the right and select Anti-Ice, ECS and Fuel buttons simultaneously. The MDC main menu should now be displayed on Display Unit #3.
    2. Using the joystick, select Current Faults (if the fault is active) or Aircraft History to research stored faults. From Aircraft History you can then select Fault Message History and locate the fault. Going into advanced diagnostics will provide an equation id for the fault identified.
    3. Select the MDC fault or equation from the drop down below to provide additional information to assist in troubleshooting.
