Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

The emergency RAM AIR VALVE is detected failed open by the Data Concentrator Unit or the discrete wiring to the Data Concentrator Unit is failed.

Possible Causes:

  • Data Concentrator Unit (DCU) (A14)
  • Ram Air Valve (RAV) (MPE40)
  • Position Switch
  • Bleed/Air Conditioning Panel (PL17)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Check the RAV position switch.

    From To Expected Results
    RAV Selected Open
    MPE40P1-1 MPE40P1-6 GND
    MPE40P1-5 MPE40P1-6 Open

  2. Are the results satisfactory?

    1. If YES, continue with the next step.
    2. If NO, replace the RAM Air Valve (MPE40). 

  3. Check wire circuit from RAV to DCU

    From To Expected Results
    MPE40J1-1 A14FPJ1-10H Continuity
    MPE40J1-5 A14FPJ1-10G Continuity

  4. Are the results satisfactory?

    1. If YES, continue with the next step.
    2. If NO, repair as required.

  5. Check the wire circuit from DCU (A14) to Air Conditioning/Bleed Control Panel (PL17)

    RAV Selected Open
    A14FPJ1-5J Gnd Continuity

  6. Are the results satisfactory?

    1. If YES, continue with the next step.
    2. If NO, repair as required.

  7. Do AMM task AMM 21-53-21-710-802 - Operational Check of the Ram-Air Valve Circuitry.
  8. Are the results satisfactory?

    1. If YES, do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with the next step. 

  9. Reseat the DCU in the rack and cycle power.
  10. Does the MDC Fault remain posted?

    1. If YES, Replace the DCU and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with the next step.

  11. Do close out.
