Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

ATC COM INOP or CPDLC COM INOP

Possible Causes:

  • Improper configuration of the system.
  • ICAO address not aligned with the aircraft registration.
  • FAA Privacy ICAO Address (PIA) is used.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Verify the Air Traffic Control (ATC#2) Transponder Address Pin Strapping in accordance with AMM TASK 34-54-01-820-801.
    NOTE: The most significant bit (MSB) of the ATC ID code is the left most bit of the ATC ID code. The least significant bit (LSB) of the ATC ID code is the right most bit of the ATC ID code.
  2. Are the result correct?

    1. If YES, continue with the next step.
    2. If NO, repair as required and do the close out.

  3. Verify the (TCAS) and Traffic Surveillance System (TSS)Transponder Unit Mode “S” Address Strapping in accordance with AMM TASK 34-43-03-280-801.
  4. Are the result correct?

    1. If YES, continue with the next step.
    2. If NO, repair as required and do the close out.

  5. Verify the Datalink Service Provider Customer Configuration in accordance with the service provider documentation.
    NOTE: This document is available by contacting the service provider directly.
  6. Verify the Configuration of the Controller Pilot Data link Communication (CPDLC) in accordance with AMM 23-23-00-970-801 Post SB 350-23-004.
  7. Are the result correct?

    1. If YES, continue with the next step.
    2. If NO, repair as required and do the close out.

  8. Verify the Encrypted Application Key (EAK) to the Datalink External Compensation-Unit in accordance with AMM TASK 23-23-01-970-801.
  9. Are the result correct?

    1. If YES, continue with the next step.
    2. If NO, repair as required and do the close out.

  10. Do the close out.
