WHITE MESSAGE
Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

Adaptive Flight Display intermittent - PFD/MFD flickers, dims, or goes black when MFD intensity knob is touched, brushed, or wiggled.

Possible Causes:

  • LH Crew Lighting Panel (PL3)
  • LH Potentiometer (R7)
  • RH Crew Lighting Panel (PL4)
  • RH Potentiometer (R6)
  • Primary Flight Display (PFD) 1 (A27)
  • Primary Flight Display (PFD) 2 (A26)
  • Multi-Function Display (MFD) 1 (A29)
  • Multi-Function Display (MFD) 2 (A28)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Replace respective Crew Lighting Panel or Potentiometer.
  2. If the issue is not caused by the intensity knob movement, swap the affected PFD or MFD with another Adaptive Flight Display (AFD). Did the fault follow the suspect display?

    1. If YES, replace defective AFD.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a power and wiring check at the affected AFD. Repair defective wiring as required.
  4. Do close out.
