Message Overview:

Message Name:

GNSS SPOOFING EFFECTS AND RESET

Message Code: 345OBS007
Effectivity: All
Message Type: Observation
Reporting LRU: Global Positioning System Receiver (GPS RCVR)
System Description: 34-55-00 - Global Positioning System (GPS)
Schematic Diagram: 34-55-00-101 - Global Positioning System (GPS) EFFECTIVITY -  ALL
Wiring Diagram: 34-55-01-1 - Global Positioning Receiver - ALL

Observation Description:

Spoofing is the act of disguising a communication from an unknown source as being from a known, trusted source. Contrary to Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal jamming where the data is rendered invalid the FMS will continue to use the GNSS position as valid. Crew is alerted with Flight Deck Effects (FDE) and different messages that indicate GNSS position is suspect.

Possible Causes:

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Spoofing.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Refer to the following reference documents to better understand the effects of spoofing and potential reset steps that may be required.

    1. AW000-34-0027 - Global Navigation Satellite System Spoofing
    2. FON 01-05  AVNC-008 - GNSS Spoofing causing FMS Incorrect Position
    3. GPS-4000S SIL 22-1.
NOTE: A GPS may require reset after a spoofing event and this may be evident if the GPS remains in Acquisition Mode, GPS data displays dashes or Date & Time provided to the Aircraft clock and other aircraft systems is incorrect.

  2.  Regarding any CAS messages that are posted active and associated with the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), refer to the SmartFix Plus Troubleshooting for the individual CAS.
