The loss of Fault History and Engine Trend and Exceedance history has been reported from the field regarding operation of the MDC-3110 and MDC-4110 products. Engineering laboratory and field investigation by the RCI MDC team revealed that a short power cycle (~15 seconds) removed power from the MDC at a time when the file system software operation was performing a critical operation. In addition, file system blocks were being used after a test indicated the block was not ready for use.

  • Interim Action: Apply power to the avionics, specifically the IAPS, for a period of one or more minutes to avoid the condition described above.
  • Resolution: A change will be made to the MDC-3110/-4110 software to improve the operation of file system software during that critical operation, and reduce the loss of history data. The MDC software update is planned to be available on or before June 29, 2007.
