Capacity Test:

The ISI Battery system will incorporate an internal test load across the batteries when a level test is requested, while simultaneously removing battery voltage from the output voltage, it is connected to the test load. This test will be launched from the maintenance panel using the test switch.

Once the test is initiated, an ISI BATT TEST ACTIVE signal is set to ground (TRUE) and sent to the RDC and the battery. The 'STBY INST BATT IN TEST' message is displayed by the MDC.

If the ISI Battery stays in TEST for more than 30 seconds or if the Test failed, the message (B3-271557) 'STBY INST BATT FAIL' will be displayed by the MDC and the advisory message 'STBY INST BATT FAULT' will be shown on EICAS.

If the TEST passes, the message (B3-271555) 'STBY INST BATT OK' will be displayed by the MDC for 15 seconds.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Depress the Fault Reset switch in front of the ISI BATT.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Do Operational Test of the Integrated Standby-Instrument (ISI) Battery Capacity.

    1. If test passes, do close out.
    2. If test fails, continue with next step.

  3. Interrogate the MDC as follows:

    1. On the cursor control panel, ensure the toggle switch is to the right and select Anti-Ice, ECS and Fuel buttons simultaneously. The MDC main menu should now be displayed on Display Unit #3.
    2. Using the joystick, select Current Faults (if the fault is active) or Aircraft History to research stored faults. From Aircraft History you can then select Fault Message History and locate the fault. Going into advanced diagnostics will provide an equation ID for the fault identified.
    3. Select the MDC fault or equation from the drop down below to provide additional information to assist in troubleshooting.

  4. Do wiring check of the 'ISI BATT FAULT' discrete between RDC connector A13FP1 (pin 8H) and ISI BATT connector BT3P1 (pin 10). Repair as required.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  5. Remove ISI BATT and put Electrical Power on the aircraft.

    1. If this message is still displayed by the MDC, go to step 7.
    2. If this message is not displayed by the MDC, continue with next step.

  6. Replace ISI BATT.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  7. Replace RDC.
  8. Do close out.
