AMBER MESSAGE (ADVISORY)
CYAN MESSAGE (STATUS)
WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

Rudder Travel Limiter Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (RTL RVDT) fault detected by Horizontal Stabilizer Electronic Control Unit (HST ECU).

Possible Causes:

  • Rudder Travel-Limiter Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (RTL RVDT) (MPE20)
  • Rudder Travel-Limiter Actuator (RTLA) (MPE79)
  • Horizontal-Stabilizer-Trim Electronic-Control Unit (HST ECU) (A130)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Reset the following circuit breakers with L Hyd, R Hyd and AUX Hyd pressurized.

    PRI STAB TRIM/RUD LIM CB1-B15
    SEC STAB TRIM/RUD LIM CB2-B13

    NOTE: Keep circuit breakers pulled for 10 seconds.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Do Operational Test of the Rudder Travel-Limiter Actuator.

    1. If test passes, do close out.
    2. If test fails, continue with next step.

  3. Do Electrical Rigging of the Rudder Travel-Limiter Actuator.

    1. If rigging fails, continue with next step.

  4. Do wiring check between HST ECU connector A130P1 and RTL RVDT connector MPE20P1. Repair/replace as required.

    1. If system checks are good, replace Rudder Limiter-Travel Actuator (RLTA) (MPE79).
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  5. Check RTL RVDT internal wiring for continuity, short-circuit and insulation.

    1. If RTL RDVT internal wiring is confirmed good, go to step 7.
    2. If RTL RVDT internal wiring is not good, continue with next step.

  6. Replace RTL RVDT.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  7. Do Electrical Rigging of the Rudder Travel-Limiter Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer.

    1. If rigging fails, go to step 9.
    2. If rigging passes, continue with next step.

  8. Do Operational Test of the Rudder Travel-Limiter Actuactor.

    1. If test passes, do close out.
    2. If test fails, continue with next step.

  9. Replace HST ECU.
  10. Do close out.
