Message Description:

The Spoiler Electronic Control Unit 2 (SECU 2) has detected Right Outboard RVDT 8 out of range.

Possible Causes:

  • Right Outboard Multi-Function Spoiler Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (MFS RVDT) (MT146)
  • Spoiler Electronic-Control Unit 2 (SECU 2) (A119)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin:

  • AW300-27-0037 - Spoiler Electronic Control Unit (SECU) - Circuit Breaker Reset Procedure (20501 - 20999)

NOTE:

  • If both SPOILERS FAULT (Caution) and STAB TRIM FAULT (Advisory) CAS messages are posted, focus the troubleshooting on wiring checks of L-GP5/R-GP5 data bus.
  • During wiring checks, reference BD-100 Schematic Manual to aid in the ring-out. All MFS RVDT will have similar measurements for comparison, if anomalies are noted during ring-out.
RVDT Components Pins Approx. Values
Primary Coil (Vp) 1 - 2 24Ω
Secondary Coil (Va) 3 - 4 12Ω
Secondary Coil (Vb) 4 - 5 12Ω

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Follow the circuit breakers reset procedure documented in AW300-27-0037.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with the next step.

  2. Do Electronic Rigging of the Spoiler Electronic-Control Unit.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with the next step.

  3. Do wiring checks between SECU 2 connector A119AP1 and Right Outboard MFS RVDT connector MT146P1. Repair/replace as required.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with the next step.

  4. Confirm Right Outboard MFS RVDT coils are not open or shorted.

    1. If MFS RVDT wiring is found defective, go to step 7.
    2. If MFS RVDT wiring is confirm good, continue with the next step.
NOTE: A swap of the MFS RVDT to confirm a defective MFS RVDT wiring is also a possibility.

  5. Visually inspect SECU's and tray's connectors for damages. Repair/replace as required.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next the step.

  6. Swap SECUs.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with the next step.
NOTE: An Electronic Rigging of the SECUs is necessary after a swap or a SECU replacement.

  7. Replace MFS RVDT.
NOTE: An Electronic Rigging of the SECUs is necessary after a MFS RVDT swap/replacement.
  8. Do close out.
