Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Overview

The cooling system decreases the temperature of the air that comes from the bleed air system. This conditioned air is then supplied to various compartments through ducts.

The cooling system supplies cool air to the flight compartment and the passenger compartment ventilation systems.

Filtering and Flow Control System

The filtering and flow control system cleans and controls the air which comes from the engines, the auxiliary power unit, or the ground connection. This system supplies the high quality air to the air conditioning system to provide comfort for the passengers. Control of the system is supplied through the bleed air control panel. The air conditioning system controller (ACSC) controls the filtering and flow control system. Switches on the bleed air control panel control the flow rate and the flow control valve.

Air Conditioning System

The air conditioning system supplies conditioned air to the flight compartment and the passenger compartment. It also supplies the cool air necessary for the avionics cooling system. It pressurizes the air for the cabin pressure control system. The air conditioning system is controlled by the air conditioning system controllers.

Ram Air System

The ram air system supplies cool air for the air conditioning unit heat exchangers through a ram air intake installed on the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer. In an emergency situation at low altitude, this system supplies ventilation for the flight compartment and the passenger compartment when an electrically operated valve is open.

Avionics Cooling System

The avionics cooling system has an electrically operated fan which is installed in the main avionics compartment. The fan removes the heat produced by the avionics equipment through ducts. The avionics exhaust fan is controlled through the avionics exhaust fan converter by the air conditioning system controllers.

On Global 5000, the avionics rack contains an electrically operated cooling supply fan. The fan supplies cooling air through tubes in the avionics rack.

The avionics cooling system also includes the cooling fans of the components or systems that follow:

  • Inertial reference system
  • Traffic/collision avoidance system
  • VHF communication unit
  • VHF navigation unit
