Overview
The engine indicating and crew alerting system (EICAS) is an integrated digital computer display system which is used for providing propulsion system indications and alert messages to the crew at all times, whenever there is power on the aircraft.
The function of the engine indicating system is to give a continuous display, in the flight compartment, of the engine indications during engine operation.
The engine indicating system shows the different engine system functions as analogue and digital displays on screens in the flight compartment. Each indication shows a different engine function, as measured by its related system. The systems have sensors which monitor the condition of the engine and supply performance data to the engine electronic controller (EEC). The EEC uses this data to control the engine and send performance indications to the displays in the flight compartment.
Two display units (DU 3 and DU 4), located side by side on the center instrument panel, are used to display the necessary parameters and messages. The left EICAS display unit (DU 3) shows the primary engine parameters such as EPR, N1 and ITT in a round dial analog format along with their corresponding digital values. N2, fuel flow, oil temperature and oil pressure are displayed in digital format only, below the dial gauges.
All crew alerting system (CAS) messages are displayed in the message window. Not all engine sourced parameters are displayed on the primary display (DU 3). The right display (DU 4) is used to monitor some of the engine parameters/components whenever the relative system synoptic page is selected for display.
