Overview

The Cabin Electronics System (CES) is an integrated control, display, and maintenance system for the aircraft cabin systems and equipment. This section includes systems that provide entertainment for the passengers, manages the data transmission, and provide for other utility functions such as global office, power distribution, galley systems etc. It provides centralized control, signal routing, and network integration for the following system groups:

  • Command and control signals
  • Digital entertainment audio and video
  • E-mail
  • Internet access
  • Maintenance and diagnostic information
  • File transfers

The entertainment function provides stereo audio, video displays, and the interfaces to carry-on devices. The cabin services function contains the public address, call system, and the telephone system. The CES provides multiple control display devices to allow cabin crew, passengers, and flight crew to interact with various cabin systems. The control/display devices are located in the galley, each seat in the cabin, various other cabin locations, and in the flight compartment. The CES provides a central maintenance function for all integrated cabin systems that is equivalent to the maintenance computer function typically associated with the flight-compartment avionics systems.

The Global Office function is intended to provide the user an equivalent level of functionality as is commonly found in a modern office on the ground. The cabin utilities provide control and display of the cabin utility functions such as the cabin temperature, lighting, power distribution, and galley systems. The power distribution function provides both Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) power distribution throughout the cabin.

Note that the system configuration described in this chapter is of a typical aircraft installation and may not reflect the installed options configuration of your aircraft.
