Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Electrical System Observed Flight Deck Effects:

There are some specific failures within the Secondary Power Distribution Assemblies (SPDAs), the Electrical Management System Control and Display Units (EMS CDUs), and the DC Power Center (DCPC) that will not generate an 'ELEC SYS FAIL' CAS message on EICAS.

NOTE:
This condition is limited to aircraft having the Integrated Avionics Computer (IAC) part numbers 7017300-61009 and 7017300-62009 installed.

The flight deck effects that could be associated with these conditions are:

  • Abnormal DC synoptic page (i.e. DC Busses other than BATT Bus energized by the batteries on ground operation).
  • Avionics equipment blinking during electrical power switching (i.e. APU start up, Hydraulic pumps start up, Generator switching after engine start, etc.).
  • Avionics equipment remains powered during aircraft power down, after Battery Master Switch is in the "OFF" position.
  • DC buses (other than the BATT bus) energized by the batteries. (This anomaly can be detected by having Display Units #1, #2, #5, and #6 and/or FMS CDUs #2 or #3 powered "ON" with aircraft on battery power only);
  • Electronics Circuit Breakers (CBs) status shown dashed out on the EMS CDUs; and
  • Inability to control "system tests" menu from the EMS CDUs.

If any of these symptoms are observed, troubleshoot the system in accordance with SmartFix Plus using Troubleshooting CAIMS Fault Code section. In the event that no CAIMS fault codes are available, please use the Troubleshooting Observed Faults section of SmartFix Plus.

For more information on this issue, refer to the following Advisory Wire:

Cabin Power Control

If power is still available on some units in the cabin with the Cabin Power PBA in OFF position, refer to the following Advisory Wire:

Accessing EMS CDU signboard menu:

To access the Signboard menu on EMS CDU 1 (2), perform the steps that follow:

  1. Select "SYSTEM"
  2. Select the lower left line select key
  3. Select the lower right line select key
  4. Select SPDA IN, DCPC IN, etc... depending on what label is required

NOTE: The wording is in relation to the EMS CDU you are monitoring, I.E. the SPDA OUT is the transmit from this CDU to the SPDA, the DCPC IN is the input "from" the DCPC.

60 Hz Frequency Converter Information:

Refer to the Supplemental Maintenance Manual (SMM) part 1 to obtain:

  • Component description, location of the units, and theory of operation
  • Cabin AC power distribution simplified schematic diagrams

Refer the aircraft Cabin Handbook (CH) to obtain:

  • Cabin outlet and GFI location
  • Maximum permitted current (Amp) or power (Watts) rating per cabin outlet
