Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Overview

The indicating/recording systems consist of the digital data buses, clock system, flight data recorder system, Electronic Display System (EDS), Electronic Flight Instruments System (EFIS), Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) and Central Warning System (CWS).

The Instruments and Control Panels chapter provides a general description of the electronic display system components, all instruments, instrument panels and controls. It also describes the subsystems that provide the flight crew with general display, aural and visual annunciations for most aircraft systems. These subsystems consist of the EFIS, EICAS, and central warning system.

The EFIS provides the flight crew with all the necessary display information for aircraft control and navigation. This information is provided on two Primary Flight Displays (PFDs) and two Multifunction Displays (MFDs).

The EICAS provides the flight crew and maintenance personnel with all the necessary displays for aircraft engine control, monitoring, control surface monitoring and provides the Crew Alerting System (CAS) messages and eight synoptic displays.

The CWS supplies aural alerts and annunciator lights. The primary component of the CWS is the fault warning computer (FWC).

The digital Clock system consists of two flight deck clocks. The digital clocks transmit time-related information to the avionics systems.

The Flight Data Recorder section describes the systems that record important aircraft system parameters. This includes a solid-state digital flightdata recorder (SSFDR), and a high-G accelerometer.

The digital data bus section describes the various digital data bus systems that permit data transmission between the line replaceable units (LRUs). These systems supply the electrical circuits and connections necessary for this data transmission.
