Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Overview

Speech communication uses voice-modulated electromagnetic waves to transmit and receive data between different aircraft and between aircraft and ground stations. It also uses satellite for communication.

VHF Communication System

The VHF COM system is a remote-controlled integrated COM radio system. The VHF COM unit 1 and VHF COM unit 2 transmit and receive voice/data on 2,278 channels between 118.000 and 136.975 MHz.

On Global 5000 and on A/C 9002 and Subs Post SB 700-23-002 for Global Express/XRS:
The VHF COM unit 3 transmits and receives voice/data on 2,278 channels between 118.000 and 136.975 MHz, and it does not have the extended frequency range.

HF Communication System

The HF COM system is a long range two-way voice communication system which operates on 280,000 channels between 2.0000 and 29.9999 MHz (in 100 Hz steps).

Satellite Communication System

The SATCOM system transmits and receives voice/data on six L-band channels between 1.5 and 1.6 GHz.

Cabin Communication System

The cabin communication system is a digital airborne telephone system that operates on the GTE AIRFONE digital air-ground telephone network. All communication functions (voice and data) in an office are made available in the airborne environment. It includes communication inside the aircraft.
