Overview
The AC power generation system supplies and controls the 3-phase, 115 VAC power supply for the aircraft.
The electrical control of the AC power supply is done by the components that follow:
- The generator control units (GCUs)
- The ELECTRICAL control panel
Each GCU adjusts the voltage output of one generator, and controls the contactors installed in the AC power center (ACPC).
The ELECTRICAL control panel is used to put the AC power generators on-line, to control the external power application, and to start battery power. It is installed on the overhead panel in the flight compartment.
The four variable frequency generators (VFGs) are kept cool by the VFG oil system.
The pump for the VFG oil-management system is installed at one end of the VFG, opposite to the drive. Oil from the sump/reservoir of each VFG lubricates the bearings and keeps the VFG cool.
The electrical power for the equipments that cannot be connected directly to the aircraft electrical system is supplied by the Power Converter System. This system supplies electrical power at a fixed frequency which is distributed to the cabin printer and electrical power outlets installed in the cockpit and cabin.
