Overview

The heated floor mats supplies more heat to possible cold areas at the floor level, for the pilot and the copilot. The heated floor mats contain electrical mats which supply heat through the scuff plates. Each floor mat has a safety system to prevent too much heat. The pilot or the copilot can set one or the two of the heated floor mats to ON or OFF with the EMS CDU.

Overview

Flight Crew Floor Heaters

Electrical heaters are used to heat the pilots and copilots feet. They consist of electrical heating elements in a mat. Each heated mat is composed of two parts, one for each foot, fixed on the cockpit floor under the kick plates. Each heater dissipates approximately 70 Watts.

System Operation

Although normally on, the pilot and copilot foot heaters can be switched off independently through the CNTL mode of the electrical management system control display unit (EMS CDU).

The temperature of the kick plates are maintained between 18 and 23 °C (65 and 75 °F). A safety thermal switch is installed in each heater to cut off electrical power if kick plate temperature exceeds 65 °C (150 °F). The heaters will again operate when the temperature falls below the trip point. Heat resistant tape operates as insulation between the scuff plate, the heated floor mat and the floor.
