Overview
Insulation is found throughout the aircraft. It decreases noise and helps retain heat or conditioned air.
The insulation in the aircraft if thermal acoustic. It keeps heat and decreases noise in the flight compartment, the passenger compartment and the baggage compartment. It is found everywhere in the fuselage, above and below the floors and on the doors and windows.
The insulation below the floors is a blanket type insulation made of 3 layers. The two external layers are made of polyimide foam and the internal is made of fiberglass. The layers are of equal thickness. Polyimide foam is also used around the windows and on the access panels on the stairs. A fiberglass blanket is used to fill open areas in the baggage compartment door and the overwing exit door. Internal panels have a layer of foam for acoustic insulation. The foam has a layer of aluminum on the rear side that also give it thermal qualities. The internal side of the overwing exit door access handle has a layer of foam for acoustic insulation.
The insulation above the flight compartment floor is foam with a layer of aluminum on the rear for thermal and acoustic insulation.
