Overview

There is a small portable fire extinguisher used to extinguish fires in the flight compartment. It is located on the right side of the flight compartment bulkhead at FS280.00 for Global Express/XRS and at FS280.00+32.00 for Global 5000 behind the copilot's seat.

Flight Compartment Extinguisher

Depending on the customer's configuration, hand fire extinguishers may be mandatory per regulations in some specific parts of the passenger cabin such as the lavatories.

There is a small portable fire extinguisher installed in the flight compartment. It is located behind the copilot's seat, on the front wall of the cockpit rear bulkhead, at the right side. A clamp holds the flight compartment extinguisher to a bracket attached to the bulkhead. The clamp opens easily to remove the extinguisher. A pin in the discharge lever must be removed to discharge the extinguisher. The fire extinguishing agent is released through the discharge nozzle when the lever is pulled. The flow will stop if the lever is released, which is an odorless, colorless, non-corrosive and inert gas.

A gauge on the fire extinguisher gives a visual indication of pressure inside the cylinder.

The green band of the pressure gauge indicates the acceptable range of pressure. The bottle should be replaced if its pressure is outside the green band.

A discharge lever and a fixed gripping lever are provided at the top end of the bottle. The two levers must be squeezed to bring them together against an integral spring in order to discharge the bottle. To stop the discharge, the two levers must be allowed to spring part.

To prevent accidentally discharging the bottle, especially when lifting it off its bracket, a lock-pin s inserted into a special hole at the neck area of the bottle. The pin must be removed first, before the discharge lever can be moved closer to the fixed ever.

One end of a nylon tie is attached to the bottle at one end and to the lockpin at its other end. The tie ensures that the pin remains attached to the bottle and will not be lost during any fire-fighting operations.

Crash Axe

A crash axe is provided next to the fire bottle. It is provided as a means of breaking open any panels to gain access areas from where a fire may originate.

The axe is fixed close to the fire bottle. Access to the hand fire bottle and the crash axe is mandatory, and must not be blocked by baggage etc., during flight/ground operations.
