Overview

The APU access doors are found on the bottom of the tail-cone of the empennage/tail structure. They are installed aft of the aft equipment compartment door. The APU access doors give access to the APU and part of the fire extinguishing system.

Each door is attached to the fuselage with two hinges. Two telescoping struts keep the doors in the open position. One toggle pin latch assembly and three cowl latch assemblies hold the two doors together in the closed position.

Each door has three more toggle pin latch assemblies; two on the forward edge and one on the aft edge. These toggle pin latch assemblies extend their pins into pin fittings on the fuselage to hold the doors in the closed position. This, along with seals installed along the edges of the door structure, provide a tight seal to give the necessary airflow across the APU to keep it cool.
