Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Overview:

Fault Message:

HI VSWR AT HGA HPA OUTPUT/TX COAX

Fault Code:

23100C4SC

Associated CAS:

None

Reporting LRU: Satellite Data Unit (SDU)
System Description: 23-13-00
Schematic Diagram: 23-13-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 23-13-09 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

Excessive Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) at High Gain Antenna (HGA) High Power Amplifier (HPA) output. VSWR is a way to measure signal reflection. A high VSWR can cause the signal to degrade.

Possible Causes:

  • Coaxial Cable
  • Radio Frequency (RF) Connectors
  • High Power Amplifier (HPA) (A229)
  • Diplexer/Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) (A230)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Access LNA RF connector A230P3 and inspect that it is properly installed and secured.

    1. If the connector is not properly installed, rectify as required and perform system test.
    2. If the connector is properly installed, continue with next step.

  2. Access HPA RF connector A229BP1 and inspect that it is properly installed and secured.

    1. If the connector is not properly installed, rectify as required and perform system test.
    2. If the connector is properly installed, continue with next step.

  3. Disconnect LNA connector A230P3 and HPA connector A229BP1. A Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) may be used to check the integrity of the coaxial cable and reveal possible imperfections or kinks.

    1. If defects are found, repair as required and do close out.
    2. If no defects are found, continue with next step.

  4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A229BP1-71 Ground
    A229BP1-71 Shield

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective coaxial cable as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  5. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A229BP1-71 A230P3

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective coaxial cable as required and do close out.

  6. Replace the LNA. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  7. Replace the HPA.
  8. Do close out.
