Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

The Satellite Data Unit (SDU) cannot receive signals or receives invalid signals from the High Power Amplifier (HPA).

or

The signals received by the SDU from the HPA do not have the necessary properties for correct system operation.

Possible Causes:

  • Coaxial Cable
  • Diplexer/Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) (A230)
  • High Power Amplifier (HPA) (A229)
  • Radio Frequency Unit (RFU) (A240)
  • Satellite Data Unit (SDU) (A228)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Disconnect SDU connector A228CP1 and RFU connector A240CP1. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A228CP1-13 Ground
    A228CP1-13 Shield

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective co-axial cable as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  2. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A228CP1-13 A240CP1-13

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective co-axial cable as required and do close out.
    2. If there is continuity, continue with next step.

  3. Reconnect what was disconnected in the previous step. Disconnect RFU connector A240AP1 and LNA connector A230P2. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A240AP1-71 Ground
    A240AP1-71 Shield

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective co-axial cable as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A240AP1-71 A230P2-1

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective co-axial cable as required and do close out.
    2. If there is continuity, continue with next step.

  5. A Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) may also be used to check the integrity of the coaxial cables.

    1. If defects are found, repair as required and do close out.
    2. If no defects are found, continue with next step.

  6. Replace the RFU. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  7. Replace the LNA. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  8. Replace the HPA. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  9. Replace the SDU.
  10. Do close out.
