Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) internal fault. Cause may be Ram and/or Flash Memory failure. Set by the startup bite. ADLU typically will not boot up in this condition and requires LRU replacement. In certain conditions, this fault can be considered as nuisance.

  • Associated Wiring

ACARS DMU FAIL message in the center of FMS CDU.

Resetting the DATALINK circuit breaker via the EMS CDU (Electrical Management System Control Display Unit) may clear the active fault.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Reset the DATALINK circuit breaker via the EMS CDU.
  2. On the CAIMS PMAT, Check faults listed under ATA 23-20 AIRBORNE DATA LINK UNIT.
  3. Is the ADLU INTERNAL FAULT code 2320001TDY message active in CAIMS?

    1. If NO, do the operational test of the Airborne Data Link System and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  4. Check with CAIMS BUS READER the status of labels 353, bit 26. Refer to TASK 45-45-00-970-824. Is the bit 26 set at 1?
    NOTE: Make sure that the displayed indication is valid by pressing "Refresh" on the CAIMS bus reader.

    1. If NO, replace the defective Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  5. Do the operational test of the Airborne Data Link System. Does the operational test is satisfactory?

    1. If YES, this message is considered a CAIMS Nuisance Fault Message, no further action required and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  6. Replace Airborne Data-Link Unit.
  7. Do close out.
    NOTE: Monitor ADLS within next few flights.
