WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Control and Display Unit (CDU)/Flight Management System (FMS)/Integrated Avionics Computer (IAC) 3 ARINC 429 broadcast data not received by Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU). Set when no data is received for 1 minute and cleared when data is received.

Possible Causes:

  • Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) (A239)
  • Integrated Avionics Computer (IAC) 3 (A12)
  • Flight Management System Control and Display Units (FMS CDU) 3 (A218)
  • Associated Wiring

Make sure that FMS is operative and there are no active/stored faults for FMS 3.

  • If there are active faults related to FMS 3, troubleshoot and fix active faults before proceeding with further steps
  • If there are stored faults related to FMS 3, make sure that faults did not happen at the same time as ADLU CDU/FMS/IAC #1 FAULT. If that is the case, then start with a wiring check between the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) and FMS 3 and FMS CDU 3

THIS FAULT WILL ALSO BE SEEN WHEN IAC #3 IS NOT INSTALLED. If no FMS 3 is installed, disregards the fault code.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Operate the Airborne Data-Link System via FMS 3 using VHF network to request a "dummy" flight plan provided by service provider.
    NOTE: Make sure aircraft is within VHF range of ACARS data communication ground station and VHF #3 is operative. Do the initialization of the Flight Management System (FMS).
  2. When the message FLT PLAN RECEIVED is shown on the FMS CDU 3, activate the flight plan, make sure the flight plan is loaded and the FMS CDU 2 automatically shows the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1. Is the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1 shown?

    1. If YES, Verify that CAIMS fault code 2320006TDY "ADLU CDU/FMS/IAC #3 FAULT" is not displayed on PMAT and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  3. Perform wiring checks, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) connector A239AP1, connector A239BP1 and FMS 3/IAC 3 connector A12CP1 and FMS 3 CDU connector A218P1. Is it satisfactory?

    1. If NO, repair or replace the defective wiring as required per WM 20-12 and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  4. Do FMS CAIMS test. Verify that CAIMS fault code 2320006TDY "ADLU CDU/FMS/IAC #3 FAULT" is not displayed on PMAT and proceed for close out.
  5. Do close out.
