Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) ARINC 429 Receiver 2 firmware failure.

Possible Causes:

  • Airborne Data Link Unit (ADLU) (A239)
  • Associated Wiring

This Receiver is used for the VHF TUNING. Make sure aircraft is within VHF range of ACARS data communication ground station and VHF #3 is operative. VHF NOCOMM or NOCOMM is displayed on FMS CDU.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Operate the Airborne Data-Link System using VHF network to receive the terminal text weather information.
    NOTE: Do the initialization of the Flight Management System (FMS).
  2. If VHF NOCOMM or NOCOMM message is displayed in the advisory display area on FMS CDU, proceed to a wiring check, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between ADLU and the VHF COM #3. Is the terminal text weather information displayed?

    1. If YES, verify that CAIMS fault code 2320012TDY "ADLU ARINC RX 2 FAULT" is not displayed on PMAT and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  3. Perform wiring checks, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) connector A239BP1 and the VHF COM #3 connector A226P1. Is it satisfactory?

    1. If NO, repair or replace the defective wiring as required per WM 20-12 and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  4. Replace the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) (ADLU ARINC 429 Receiver #2 is faulty).
  5. Do close out.
