Fault Description:

Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) ARINC 429 Receiver 6 firmware failure.

Possible Causes:

  • Airborne Data Link Unit (ADLU) (A239)
  • Flight Management System Control-And-Display Unit (FMS CDU) 2 (A38)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

This Receiver is used for IAC/FMS 2.

Make sure that FMS is operative and there are no active/stored faults for FMS 2.

If there are active faults related to FMS 2, troubleshoot and fix active faults before proceeding with further steps:

  • If there are stored faults related to FMS 2, make sure that faults did not happen at the same time as ADLU ARINC RX 6 FAULT. If that is the case, then start with a wiring check between the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) and FMS 2

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Operate the Airborne Data-Link System via FMS 2 using VHF network to request a "dummy" flight plan provided by service provider.
NOTE: Make sure aircraft is within VHF range of ACARS data communication ground station and VHF #3 is operative. Do the initialization of the Flight Management System (FMS).
  2. When the message FLT PLAN RECEIVED is shown on the FMS CDU 2, activate the flight plan, make sure the flight plan is loaded and the FMS CDU 3 automatically shows the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1. Is the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1 shown?

    1. If YES, verify that CAIMS fault code 2320016TDY "ADLU ARINC RX 6 FAULT" is not displayed on PMAT and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  3. Perform wiring checks, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) connector A239AP1, and FMS 2/IAC 2 connector A10CP1. Is it satisfactory?

    1. If NO, repair or replace the defective wiring as required per WM 20-12 and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  4. Replace the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) (ADLU ARINC 429 Receiver #6 is faulty).
  5. Do close out.
