Fault Description:

Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) ARINC 429 Transmitter #1 firmware failure.

  • Flight Management System Control-And-Display Unit (FMS CDU) 1 (A37)
  • Flight Management System Control-And-Display Unit (FMS CDU) 3 (A218)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Operate the Airborne Data-Link System via FMS 1 using VHF network to request a "dummy" flight plan provided by service provider.
    NOTE: Make sure aircraft is within VHF range of ACARS data communication ground station and VHF #3 is operative. Do the initialization of the Flight Management System (FMS).
  2. When the message FLT PLAN RECEIVED is shown on the FMS CDU 1, activate the flight plan, make sure the flight plan is loaded and the FMS CDU 1 automatically shows the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1. Is the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1 shown?

    1. If YES, go to step 4.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  3. Perform wiring checks, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) connector A239AP1, A239BP1 and FMS 1/IAC 1 connector A11CP1. Is it satisfactory?

    1. If YES, go to step 8.
    2. If NO, repair or replace the defective wiring as required per WM 20-12 and do close out.

  4. Check if the FMS 3 is installed?

    1. If YES, continue with next step.
    2. If NO, verify that CAIMS fault code 2320019TDY "ADLU ARINC TX 1 FAULT" is not displayed on PMAT and do close out.

  5. Operate the Airborne Data-Link System via FMS 3 using VHF network to request a "dummy" flight plan provided by service provider.
    NOTE: Open circuit breakers "FMS 1 CDU" and "FMS 2 CDU" on the EMS CDU.
  6. Make sure aircraft is within VHF range of ACARS data communication ground station and VHF #3 is operative. Do the initialization of the Flight Management System (FMS). When the message FLT PLAN RECEIVED is shown on the FMS CDU 3, activate the flight plan, make sure the flight plan is loaded and the FMS CDU 3 automatically shows the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1. Is the ACTIVE FLT PLAN page 1/1 shown on FMS CDU 3?

    1. If YES, perform step 4 again.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  7. Perform wiring checks, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) connector A239AP1, A239BP1 and FMS 3/IAC 3 connector A12CP1. Is it satisfactory?

    1. If NO, repair or replace the defective wiring as required per WM 20-12 and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  8. Replace the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) (ADLU ARINC 429 Transmitter #1 is faulty).
  9. Do close out.
