Message Description:

Airborne Data Link Unit (ADLU) sets TEL NOCOMM message when:

  • Three attempts are made to establish a telephony link and all three attempts are unsuccessful. This could be the result of the phone line being busy, the ground not answering, being between the cells in which case the airborne phone system could not establish connection etc
  • Three consecutive attempts are made to transfer the downlink message and all three attempts are unsuccessful
  • Three consecutive attempts to receive an uplink message have been made and all three attempts are unsuccessful

Possible Causes:

No connection can be made with the telephony modem. This fault is set when telephony modem access fails and cleared when telephony modem access succeeds. Make sure that Cabin Communication System is operative before proceeding with troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Operate the Airborne Data-Link System using Airborne Telephony to receive the terminal text weather information.
NOTE: Do the initialization of the Flight Management System (FMS). Deactivate SATCOM and VHF 3 systems by respective circuit breakers.
  2. Check if the terminal text weather information displayed?

    1. If YES, verify that CAIMS fault code 2320007TDY "ADLU TELEPHONY MODEM FAULT" is not displayed on PMAT and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a continuity check, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the ADLU connector (A239BP1) and the CDBR-2 connector (A244P5). Is the wiring continuity, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between ADLU and the CDBR-2 satisfactory?

    1. If NO, repair or replace the wiring as required as per WM 20-12 and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  4. Replace the Airborne Data-Link Unit (ADLU) (ADLU TELEPHONY MODEM FAULT is faulty).
  5. Do close out.
