These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

The transmit inhibit function of the Lightning Sensor System (LSS) does not operate.

  • Audio Panel 2 (A9)
  • Audio Panel 3 (A215)

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Remove the applicable audio panel(s) and the cover from the junction box JB3 to get access to the circuit card. Perform a continuity check for open circuits between the pins of LSS PROCESSOR connector (A224BP1), JB3, PCB5, LSS RELAY (K34), SPDA 3 connector (A15P2), AUDIO PANEL 1 connector (A8P1), AUDIO PANEL 2 connector (A9P1) and AUDIO PANEL 3 connector (A215P1) as follows:
    For the LSS processor (A224):

    From To Result
    A224BP1-24 JB3/PCB5/K34-A1
    A224BP1-25 JB3/PCB5/K34-A2
    JB3/PCB5/K34-X1 A15P2-H

    For the audio panel 1 (A8):
    NOTE: This interface contains a diode. Set the multimeter to the diode test position and take the measurements with the polarities shown.

    From To Resistance Result
    A8P1-X (+) JB3/PCB5/K34-X2 (-) High (reverse biased)
    A8P1-X (-) JB3/PCB5/K34-X2 (+) Low (forward biased)

    For the audio panel 2 (A9):
    NOTE: This interface contains a diode. Set the multimeter to the diode test position and take the measurements with the polarities shown.

    A9P1-X (+) JB3/PCB5/K34-X2 (-) High (reverse biased)
    A9P1-X (-) JB3/PCB5/K34-X2 (+) Low (forward biased)

    For the audio panel 3 (A215):
    NOTE: This interface contains a diode. Set the multimeter to the diode test position and take the measurements with the polarities shown.
    On A/C Post SB 700-23-002:

    From To Resistance Result
    A215P1-X (+) JB3/PCB5/K34-X2 (-) High (reverse biased)
    A215P1-X (-) JB3/PCB5/K34-X2 (+) Low (forward biased)

    1. If there is an open circuit, repair or replace the defective wiring as required and do close out
    2. If there is no open circuit, continue with next step.

  2. Check if there is a short circuit between the pins of LSS PROCESSOR connector (A224BP1), AUDIO PANEL 1 connector (A8P1), AUDIO PANEL 2 connector (A9P1), AUDIO PANEL 3 connector (A215P1) and Aircraft Ground as follows:
    For the LSS processor (A224):

    From To Result
    A224BP1-24 Ground
    A224BP1-25 Ground

    For the audio panel 1 (A8):

    From To Result
    A8P1-X Ground

    For the audio panel 2 (A9):

    From To Result
    A9P1-X Ground

    For the audio panel 3 (A215) (On A/C Post SB 700-23-002):

    From To Result
    A215P1-X Ground

    1. If there is a short circuit, repair or replace the defective wiring as required and install the audio panel(s).
    2. If there is no short circuit, continue with next step

  3. Replace LSS relay, circuit card 5 from junction box JB3, LSS processor.
  4. Do close out.
