CYAN MESSAGE (STATUS)
WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

NOTE: SELCAL VHF 2 (Cyan) does not represent a failure of the SELCAL system.

The following troubleshooting addresses the condition when the encoded SELCAL signal was sent to aircraft and is not displayed on EICAS primary display unit and the related SELCAL audio alert is not heard.

NOTE: The SELCAL system is a non-CAIMS compliant system

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect strapping of the SELCAL code terminal-module
  • External interface problem.
  • SELCAL decoder unit.
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Do a power check on the SELCAL decoder connector A20CP1, pins 2 and 3.
  2. Is there +28 VDC between the pin 2 and the pin 3 (Ground) on the connector A20CP1?

    3. NO YES
    Check that there is +28 VDC on the SPDA No.4 connector A16P1 pin C. Proceed to step 5 in this procedure.

  3. Is there +28 VDC on the SPDA No. 4 connector A16P1 pin C?

    4. NO YES
    Proceed to the fault isolation for the SPDA No.4 Do a wiring continuity, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between SELCAL decoder connector A20CP1 and SPDA No. 4 connector A16P1 and the ground stud GS28.

  4. Is the wiring continuity, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between SELCAL decoder connector A20CP1 and SPDA No.4 connector A16P1 and the ground stud GS28 satisfactory?

    5. NO YES
    Repair or replace the wiring as required per SPM 20-12. Proceed to step 5 in this procedure.

  5. Do a wiring continuity and pin/socket retention check between SELCAL decoder connector A20BP1 pin 8A and GM17 pin A.
  6. Is the wiring continuity and pin/socket retention check between SELCAL decoder connector A20BP1 pin 8A and GM17 pin A satisfactory?

    7. NO YES
    Repair or replace the wiring as required per SPM 20-12. On the SELCAL decoder connector A20BP1 do a wiring continuity for the correct strapping of the SELCAL code terminal-module.

  7. Is the strapping of the SELCAL code terminal-module correct?

    8. NO YES
    Repair or replace the SELCAL code terminal-module. Do a wiring continuity, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the SELCAL decoder A20 connector A20BP1 and VHF 2 transceiver A2 connector A2P1.

  8. Is the wiring continuity, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the SELCAL decoder A20 connector A20BP1 and VHF 2 transceiver A2 connector A2P1 satisfactory?

    9. NO YES
    Repair or replace the wiring as required per SPM 20-12. Do a wiring continuity, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the SELCAL decoder A20 connector A20BP1 and DAU #4 A31 connector A31BP1.

  9. Is the wiring continuity, short to ground and pin/socket retention check between the SELCAL decoder A20 connector A20BP1 and DAU #4 A31 connector A31BP1 satisfactory?

    10. NO YES
    Repair or replace the wiring as required per SPM 20-12. Replace the SELCAL decoder A20 (SELCAL decoder is faulty)

  10. Do close out.
