RED MESSAGE (CAUTION)
AMBER MESSAGE (ADVISORY)
CYAN MESSAGE (STATUS)
WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

The slats and flaps do not operate because of a latched fault. The slats and flaps cannot be selected.

NOTE: The SLAT FAIL (Amber) message or the FLAP FAIL (Amber) message shows when the fault affects only one system.

Possible Causes:

  • Slat Flap Control Unit (SFCU)
  • A mechanical jam in the drive line (after third try to move the system)
  • Loss of power to the system
  • Overheated components
  • There is a skew trip of the flaps
  • There is a mechanical disconnect
  • There is a system overspeed condition
  • The SFCS is not rigged correctly
  • Associated Wiring

NOTE 1: If an SFCU seems to be in a locked up state, please refer to this Troubleshooting Tip for more information and instructions to resolve the issue.

NOTE 2: To avoid the display of any Slat/Flap related CAS nuisance message after replacement of SFCU due to internal failure, follow AW 700-27-0373 instructions.

  • Execute two consecutive Slats and Flaps electrical rigging on CAIMS (All EICAS messages and CAIMS Active faults related to the Slat Flap Control System must be disregarded throughout the dual electrical CAIMS rigging process.)
  • Once the two CAIMS SFCS rigging are completed, perform a complete aircraft power shut down
