Message Overview:

CONFIG RUD TRIM
(Warning)

DDG Reference: None
Pilot Action (QRH): EMER 8-2
System Description: 27-21-00
Schematic Diagram: 27-20-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 27-20-01 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

The aircraft is in the take-off configuration, and the rudder system is operating out of the permitted range.

This message will be displayed when Rudder Trim Angle is < -11.1% OR > 11.1%

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect take-off configuration
  • Rudder Trim Actuator
  • Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) 1
  • Secondary Power Distribution Assembly (SPDA) 1
  • AIL/RUD/STAB Trims Panel
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

The 'CONFIG RUD TRIM' (Red) CAS message is posted when the A/C is Weight-On-Wheel and the Throttle Quadrants are greater then 30° in Take-Off condition. If the rudder can be trimmed on the AIL/RUD TRIM panel, bring the rudder in the green band on the EICAS page and confirm the message clear.

This message will normally be posted with the 'NO TAKEOFF' Advisory CAS message and other warning CAS messages. If you have this condition, continue the troubleshooting with the CAS message 'NO TAKEOFF' to isolate a faulty WOW Sensor, LGECU, IAC or Throttle Quadrant. Otherwise continue this procedure.

NOTE: The rudder trim is NOT controlled by the flight control units. The trim actuator position is provided to DAU#1 from the actuator.

If the Rudder and the indication is not moving, the issue could be related to faulty actuator, trim panel, SPDA #1 or wiring interface.

If the rudder is trimming and the indication is not moving, the issue could be related to the trim actuator, DAU#1 or wiring interface.

The self-test of the FWC in IACs does the test of the crew alerting system which includes the TRA signal from the throttle quadrant and the WOW signal from the LGECU.

The rudder trim position can be found in CAIMS:

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

Rudder is not trimming.

  1. Swap the SPDA 1 with the SPDA 4.
NOTE: If the fault follows the SPDA 1 in the SPDA 4 position, CAS messages related to the lost of the DAU 2 CHANNEL A should be posted.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Confirm that 28 VDC and proper ground return are provided at the Actuator.
  3. Confirm ground is provided at the Actuator on retract and extend command.
  4. If the 28 VDC and the command are provided properly replace the Actuator.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  5. If power or command is not there, perform a wiring check between the SPDA 1, trim panel and to the Actuator

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  6. If the ground is not properly provided, perform a wiring check between the trim panel and the Actuator and replace the trim panel if necessary.
  7. Do close out.

Rudder is trimming but indication is not moving.

  1. Swap the DAU 1 and DAU 3.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Perform wiring check between the DAU 1 and the Actuator.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  3. Replace the rudder trim actuator.
  4. Do close out.
