Fault Description:
Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 1 has tripped off-line or will not come on-line.
Possible Causes:
- Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 1 (G1)
- Generator Control Unit (GCU) 1 (A56)
- Associated Wiring
Troubleshooting Tips:
Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None
Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None
A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to swap GCUs 1, 4 and 5 into position 2 or 3 (for troubleshooting only).
The GCU NVMs can only be downloaded at position #2 or #3.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:
- Swap GCU #1 with GCU #2 (physically or using the GCU patch cable).
NOTE: Use PMAT to monitor the fault on GCU.- If system checks are good, replace GCU #1 and do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
- Disconnect connector GCU No. 1 (A56P1) and VFG No. 1 (G1P1).
- Do a resistance check (6.0 to 7.3 ohms at 20° C) between pins B and H on the VFG receptacle G1J1 (VFG side).
- If resistance is out of tolerance, go to step 5.
- If resistance is within tolerance, continue with next step.
- Perform wiring check between GCU 1 and Generator 1 as follows:
From To Result G1P1-H A56P1-J G1P1-B A56P1-K - If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
- If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.
- Replace VFG #1.
- Do close out.
