Message Description:
Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 1 has tripped off-line or will not come on-line.
Possible Causes:
- Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 1 (G1)
- Generator Control Unit (GCU) 1 (A56)
- AC Power Center (ACPC) (A54)
- Associated Wiring

NOTES:
- Prior to T/S procedures, perform a visual of generator 1 for heat distress. Confirm if the heat exchanger is blocked with FOD.
- A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to interchange GCUs 1, 4 and 5 into position 2 or 3 (for troubleshooting only).
- The GCU NVMs can only be downloaded at position #2 or #3.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:
- Access CAIMS and check if the following faults messages are active:
- 2421126LPS - GEN1 OIL OVERTEMP FAULT
- 2421200LPS - GEN1 DRIVE SHAFT FAIL/INVALID %N2
Inspect the VFG for the following:
- VFG oil filter bypass indicator tripped, and/or
- Metal particles in the oil lines, and/or
- VFG end frame cracked or breached, and/or
- Oil sight glass cracked
- If there is a combination of the listed CAIMS fault messages and VFG condition(s) perform RIL GX-0198
- If there is NO combination, continue with next step.
- Access CAIMS active faults. Are there any ACPC related fault messages?
- If YES, troubleshoot these messages first.
- If NO, continue with next step.
- Interchange GCU 1 with GCU 2 (physically or using the GCU patch cable).
NOTE: Use CAIMS to monitor the fault on GCU.- If system checks are good, replace GCU 1 and do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
- Disconnect GCU 1 connector A56P2 and VFG 1 connector G1P1. Do a continuity check as follows:
From To Result A56P2-41 Ground A56P2-42 Ground A56P2-50 Ground A56P2-40 Ground - If there is continuity, repair defective wiring.
- If there is NO continuity, continue with next step.
- Do a continuity check between GCU 1 and VFG 1 as follows:
From To Result A56P2-41 G1P1-F A56P2-42 G1P1-E A56P2-50 G1P1-J A56P2-40 G1P1-D - If there is continuity, continue with next step.
- If there is NO continuity, repair defective wiring as required.
- Disconnect ACPC connector A54P6. Do a continuity check as follows:
From To Result A56P2-49 Ground A56P2-57 Ground A56P2-63 Ground A56P2-62 Ground - If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required.
- If there is NO continuity, continue with next step.
- Do a continuity check between GCU 1 and ACPC as follows:
From To Result A56P2-49 A54P6-E A56P2-57 A54P6-F A56P2-63 A54P6-G A56P2-62 A54P6-H - If there is continuity, continue with next step.
- If there is NO continuity, repair defective wiring as required.
- Disconnect VFG #1 (T1, T2 and T3) and ACPC VFG1-A, B and C.
- Do an Insulation check using a megger as follows:
Caution: Before using the megger, make sure both sides of cable are disconnected. Failure to do that may damage the equipmentFrom To Expected Result Result VFG1-T1 Ground No Continuity VFG1-T2 Ground No Continuity VFG1-T3 Ground No Continuity - If there is continuity repair defective wiring and do close out.
- If there is no continuity, continue with next step.
- Do an Insulation check using a megger as follows:

- If there is no continuity, continue with next step.
- Do a continuity check as follow:
From To Expected Result Result VFG1-T1 ACPC VFG1-A Continuity VFG1-T2 ACPC VFG1-B Continuity VFG1-T3 ACPC VFG1-C Continuity VFG1-G Ground Continuity - If there is continuity, continue with next step.
- If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required.
- Interchange VFG 1 with VFG 2. Is the fault still present?
- If Yes, continue with next step.
- If NO, replace VFG
- Replace ACPC.
- Do close out.
