Message Overview:

Fault Message:

GCU1 [H/W OVERVOLTAGE SENSE FAULT]

Fault Code:

2421175LPS

Associated CAS:

GEN 1 FAIL
(Advisory)

Reporting LRU: Generator Control Unit (GCU) 1
System Description: 24-21-00
Schematic Diagram: 24-21-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 24-21-01 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

Generator Control Unit (GCU) 1 has detected a hardware over-voltage failure on initial power up, consequently preventing the generator to come on-line.

Possible Causes:

  • AC Power Center (ACPC) (A54)
  • Generator Control Unit (GCU) 1 (A56)
  • Variable Frequency Generators (VFG) 1 (G1)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to swap GCUs 1, 4 and 5 into position 2 or 3 (for troubleshooting only).

The GCU NVMs can only be downloaded at position #2 or #3.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. With connectors A56P1 (GCU 1) and G1P1 (VFG 1) disconnected, perform a check for a short circuit between G1P1-B and ground (See Quick Links: WIRING I/F-GCU1/VFG1).

    1. If a short to ground fault is detected, repair or replace wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If no short to ground fault is detected, go to next step.

  2. Swap GCU 1 with GCU 2 (or use the patch cable).

    1. After starting the engine, if the fault remains with GCU 1. Replace GCU 1 and do close out.
    2. If the fault moved to GCU 2, go to next step.

  3. Replace VFG #1.
  4. Do close out.
