WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

Generator Control Unit (GCU) 1 has detected a Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 1 Oil Pressure Switch/sensing fault.

Possible Causes:

  • Generator Control Unit (GCU) 1 (A56)
  • Generator Oil Pressure Switch
  • Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 1 (G1)
  • Associated Wiring

A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to interchange GCUs 1, 4 and 5 into position 2 or 3 (for troubleshooting only). The GCU NVMs can only be downloaded at position #2 or #3.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Interchange GCU 1 with GCU 2. Is the fault still present?

    1. If YES, continue with next step.
    2. If NO, replace GCU 1 and do close out.

  2. Disconnect VFG 1 connector G1P2 and GCU 1 connector A56P2. Do a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A56P2-10 Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  3. Do a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A56P2-10 G1P2-A
    G1P2-B Ground

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.

  4. Interchange the Generator oil pressure switch with another VFG. Is the fault still present?

    1. If YES, continue with next step.
    2. If NO, replace Generator oil pressure switch and do close out.

  5. Replace VFG 1.
  6. Do close out.
