Fault Description:

Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 2 remote oil level sensor or the Generator Control Unit (GCU) 2 sensing circuit is detected faulty by continuous Built-In Test (BIT) monitoring.

Possible Causes:

  • Generator Control Unit (GCU) 2 (A57)
  • Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 2 (G2)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Disconnect GCU 2 connector A57P2 and VFG 2 connector G2P1. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A57P2-33 Ground
    A57P2-60 Ground
    A57P2-33 A57P2-60

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  2. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A57P2-33 Backshell (Shield)
    A57P2-60 Backshell (Shield)

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A57P2-33 G2P1-K
    A57P2-60 G2P1-M

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.

  4. Swap the GCU 2 with GCU 1. Is the fault still present?
NOTE: Allow at least 8.5 minutes for the GCU to perform its self tests (2 samples).

    1. If YES, continue with next step.
    2. If NO, replace defective GCU 2 and do close out.

  5. Replace VFG 2.
  6. Do close out.
