Fault Description:
Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 2 remote oil level sensor or the Generator Control Unit (GCU) 2 sensing circuit is detected faulty by continuous Built-In Test (BIT) monitoring.
Possible Causes:
- Generator Control Unit (GCU) 2 (A57)
- Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 2 (G2)
- Associated Wiring
Troubleshooting Tips:
Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None
Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None
A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to swap GCU 1, GCU 2, GCU 3, GCU 4 and the APU GCU into a different position (for troubleshooting only). You can monitor the GCU faults in CAIMS via the active faults page.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:
- Disconnect GCU 2 connector A57P2 and VFG 2 connector G2P1. Perform a continuity check as follows:
From To Result A57P2-33 Ground A57P2-60 Ground A57P2-33 A57P2-60 - If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
- If there is no continuity, continue with next step.
- Perform a continuity check as follows:
From To Result A57P2-33 Backshell (Shield) A57P2-60 Backshell (Shield) - If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
- If there is no continuity, continue with next step.
- Perform a continuity check as follows:
From To Result A57P2-33 G2P1-K A57P2-60 G2P1-M - If there is continuity, continue with next step.
- If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
- Swap the GCU 2 with GCU 1. Is the fault still present?
NOTE: Allow at least 8.5 minutes for the GCU to perform its self tests (2 samples).- If YES, continue with next step.
- If NO, replace defective GCU 2 and do close out.
- Replace VFG 2.
- Do close out.
