WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Generator Control Unit (GCU) 3 has detected a fault with Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 3 Oil Pressure Switch/sensing.

Possible Causes:

  • Generator Control Unit (GCU) 3 (A58)
  • Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 3 (G3)
  • Generator Oil Pressure Switch
  • Associated Wiring

A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to swap GCU 1, GCU 2, GCU 3, GCU 4 and the APU GCU into a different position (for troubleshooting only). You can monitor the GCU faults in CAIMS via the active faults page.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Swap GCU 3 with GCU 4. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, replace GCU 3 and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  2. Disconnect VFG 3 connector G3P2 and GCU 3 connector A58P2. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A58P2-10 Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A58P2-10 G3P2-A
    G3P2-B Ground

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is continuity, continue with next step.

  4. Swap the Generator oil pressure switch with another VFG. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, replace Generator oil pressure switch and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  5. Replace VFG 3.
  6. Do close out.
