RED MESSAGE (CAUTION)
AMBER MESSAGE (ADVISORY)
CYAN MESSAGE (STATUS)
WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Generator Control Unit (GCU) 3 has detected a pin programming/sense fault, consequently resulting in Generator 3 being tripped off-line or not come on-line.

Possible Causes:

  • Generator Control Unit (GCU) 3 (A58)
  • Associated Wiring

A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to swap GCU 1, GCU 2, GCU 3, GCU 4 and the APU GCU into a different position (for troubleshooting only). You can monitor the GCU faults in CAIMS via the active faults page.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Disconnect GCU 3 connector A58P2. Use the table below to make sure that the program pins are wired properly:

    APU GCU GCU 1 GCU 2 GCU 3 GCU 4
    Prog pin 0 P2-18 to P2-34 (Gnd) Open Open Connected Open Connected
    Prog pin 1 P2-27 to P2-43 (Gnd) Connected Connected Open Open Connected
    Prog pin 2 P2-17 to P2-35 (Gnd) Open Connected Connected Connected Open
    Parity pin P2-26 to P2-44 (Gnd) Open Connected Connected Open Connected

    1. If all checks are good, continue with next step.
    2. If checks do not match the table, repair defective wiring and do close out.

  2. Replace the GCU 3.
  3. Do close out.
