Fault Description:
Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 4 has tripped off-line or will not come on-line due to deliberate operation or failure of the R Fire Handle.
Possible Causes:
- R Fire Handle (A210)
- Generator Control Units (GCU) 4 (A59)
- Associated Wiring
Troubleshooting Tips:
Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None
Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None
A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to swap GCUs 1, 4 and 5 into position 2 or 3 (for troubleshooting only).
The GCU NVMs can only be downloaded at position #2 or #3.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:
- Make sure the R Fire Handle is not operated.
- Swap the GCU 4 with GCU 2 (physically or using the GCU patch cable).
NOTE: Use PMAT to monitor the fault on GCU.- If system checks are good, replace GCU 4 and do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
- Disconnect connector A59P2 (GCU 4) and connector A210P1 (R engine fire handle).
- Perform wiring checks (short circuit= failure) between GCU 4 and ground as follow:
From To Result A59P2-20 Ground - If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
- If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.
- Do the operational test of the fire extinguishing system.
- If test passes, do close out.
- If test fails, continue with next step.
- Replace R Fire Handle.
- Do close out.
