GEN 4 FAIL
(Advisory)

Reporting LRU: Generator Control Unit (GCU) 4
System Description: 24-21-00
Schematic Diagram: 24-21-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 24-21-04 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

Generator Control Unit (GCU) 4 has received a Generator Line Contactor Inhibit (GLC INH) signal from the AC Power Center (ACPC) or has detected a failure in its internal GLC inhibit sensing circuit.

Possible Causes:

  • AC Power Center (ACPC) (A54)
  • Generator Control Unit (GCU) 4 (A59)
  • Primary Logic Card (PLC) 1
  • Primary Logic Card (PLC) 2
  • Primary Logic Card (PLC) 3
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

A GCU patch cable (GSE REF # 24X-24-02) can be used to swap GCUs 1, 4 and 5 into position 2 or 3 (for troubleshooting only).

The GCU NVMs can only be downloaded at position #2 or #3.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Swap the GCU 4 with GCU 2.

    1. If system checks are good, replace GCU 4 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Remove PLC 1.

    1. If fault is no longer present, install a new PLC in the 1 position and do close out.
    2. If fault is still present, re-install PLC 1 and go to next step.

  3. Remove PLC 2.

    1. If fault is no longer present, install a new PLC in the 2 position and do close out.
    2. If fault is still present, re-install PLC 2 and go to next step.

  4. Remove PLC 3.

    1. If fault is no longer present, install a new PLC in the 3 position and do close out.
    2. If fault is still present, re-install PLC 3 and go to next step.

  5. Remove PLC 1, PLC 2 and PLC 3.
  6. On GCU 4, disconnect connector A59P2, using a multi-meter, perform wiring checks (ground short fault) between A59P2 and ground as follow:

    From To Result
    A59P2-29 Ground

    1. If the ground short fault is no longer present, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If the ground short fault is detected, continue with next step.

  7. On ACPC, disconnect connector A54P2, using a multi-meter, perform wiring checks (ground short fault) between A54P2 and ground as follow:

    From To Result
    A54P2-29 Ground

    1. If the ground short fault is no longer present, continue with next step.
    2. If the ground short fault is still present, repair or replace the wire harness between GCU 4 and ACPC and do close out.

  8. Replace the ACPC.
  9. Do close out.
