Message Description:

  1. The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Battery Voltage is out of range (V < 22 VDC or V > 35 VDC) for at least 4 seconds.
  2. The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Battery charger detects a failure from the APU battery.

  • AC Power Center (ACPC) A/D Converter card
  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Battery (A89)
  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Battery Charger (A90)
  • AC Power Center (ACPC) (A54)

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Select DC synoptic page. Is the APU battery temperature below -20°C or above 57°C?

    1. If YES, restore battery to normal operating temperatures and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  2. Select DC synoptic page.

    1. If all the APU BATT parameters are within range, go to step 18.
    2. Is the APU battery voltage dashed or erroneous? If YES, go to step 8.
    3. Is the APU battery current dashed or erroneous? If YES, go to step 13.
    4. Is the APU battery temperature dashed or erroneous? If YES, continue with next step.

  3. Remove A/D converter card in ACPC. Disconnect APU Battery connectors (A89P1 and A89P2). Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A89P1-M Ground
    A89P1-a Ground

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 5.

  4. Disconnect ACPC connector A54P4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A89P1-M Ground
    A89P1-a Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 27.

  5. Perform a continuity check between APU Battery and EMI as follows:

    From To Result
    A89P1-M P520B-20
    A89P1-a P520B-21

    1. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is continuity, go to step 7.

  6. Perform a continuity check between APU Battery and ACPC as follows:

    From To Result
    A89P1-M A54P4-T
    A89P1-a A54P4-U

    1. If there is continuity, go to step 27.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.

  7. Replace A/D converter card in ACPC. Is the fault resolved?

    1. If YES, do close out.
    2. If NO, replace APU battery and continue with next step.

  8. Remove A/D converter card in ACPC. Perform a voltage check as follows:

    From To Result
    P520B-26 Ground

    1. If there is no voltage, continue with next step.
    2. If there is voltage, replace A/D converter card and do close out.

  9. Disconnect A48P2 from the ASCA. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A48P2-a P520B-26

    1. If there is continuity, go to step 11.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  10. Disconnect ACPC connector A54P4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A54P4-W A48P2-a

    1. If there is continuity, go to step 27.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.

  11. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    P520B-26 Ground

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, replace ASCA and do close out.

  12. Disconnect ACPC connector A54P4. Perform a continuity check on the ACPC side as follows:

    From To Result
    A48P2-a Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 27.

  13. Remove A/D converter card in ACPC. Disconnect ASCA A48P2. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    A48P2-P P520B-25

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 16.

  14. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A48P2-N Ground
    A48P2-P Ground

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 17.

  15. Disconnect ACPC A54P4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A48P2-N Ground
    A48P2-P Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 27.

  16. Disconnect ACPC A54P4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A48P2-N A54P4-f
    A48P2-P A54P4-g

    1. If there is continuity, go to step 27.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.

  17. Replace A/D converter card. Is the fault resolved?

    1. If YES, do close out.
    2. If NO, replace ASCA and do close out.

  18. Interchange APU battery charger with Avionic battery charger. Is the fault resolved?

    1. YES, replace APU charger and do close out.
    2. NO, continue with next step.

  19. Disconnect charger A90P1 and Battery A89P1. Perform a continuity check as follows, using WDM 24-32-02 sheet 1. Make sure pin to pin have continuity and pin to ground is open.

    2. If checks are good, continue with next step.

  20. Remove A/D converter card in ACPC. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 23.

  21. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A90P1-N Ground

    1. If there is continuity, continue with next step.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 24.

  22. Disconnect ACPC A54P4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A90P1-N Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, go to step 27.

  23. Disconnect ACPC A54P4. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A90P1-N A54P4-M

    1. If there is continuity, go to step 27.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.

  24. Send APU battery to battery shop for reconditioning and reinstall it. Is the fault resolved?

    1. Yes, do close out.
    2. No, continue with next step.

  25. Replace A/D converter card. Is the fault resolved?

    1. Yes, do close out.
    2. No, continue with next step.

  26. Replace APU battery.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  27. Replace ACPC.
  28. Do close out.
