WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

There is a problem with a potentiometer in a Pitch Feel Actuator 1. The potentiometer is possibly invalid or reporting a mechanical jam.

Possible Causes:

  • Pitch Feel Actuator 1 (A77)
  • Flight Control Unit (FCU) 1 (A65)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

This fault may sometime be cleared by performing the flight control system reset procedure. If the message comes back more then once within 10 flight legs, troubleshooting is required.

NOTE: If FCUs are swapped/replaced, ensure proper system tests are carried out to clear latched faults retained in the FCU prior to swap.

The pitch feel actuator information can be found in the CAIMS system diagnostic:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #1
  4. LRU TEST
  5. DISPLAY PITCH FEEL DATA
  6. CONFIRM

The Pitch feel Actuator can also be simulated on CAIMS in case the fault cleared:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #1
  4. LRU TEST
  5. PITCH FEEL ACTR PLT/CPLT POSITIONING

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Swap FCU 1 with FCU 2 and clear FCU latched faults. Is the fault still present?

    1. If YES, continue with next step.
    2. If NO, replace defective FCU.

  2. Perform wiring checks between FCU 1 and Pitch Feel Actuator 1.

    1. If wiring defects are found, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If no defects are found, continue with next step.

  3. Replace Pitch Feel Actuator 1.
  4. Do close out.
